Starting a new fitness program is akin to going on a new adventure. There are high hopes, a bit of dread, and some excitement. However, the adventure can become dull and boring, the willingness leaks out, and the motivation is lost. So while finding a new fitness program is easy, sticking to one is infinitely harder. Before you join any program, you want to closely examine the details to see if it fits you.

One of the details to look at it is the schedule. Sticking to any kind of schedule day after day can be difficult. This is especially true if your schedule revolves around kids. Make sure your fitness schedule reflects the actual time you have to devote to exercise. If it doesn’t fit in your schedule, the program is simply not going to work.

Another detail to look at is variety. A good program should offer more than just a repetitive same old type of workout every single time you go. If you do cardiovascular and then weights or weights and cardiovascular, you will quickly get bored. Boredom leads to a loss of motivation and makes it very hard to attend those workout sessions. Excuses will come quickly and easily. The next thing you know it has been six months since you worked out.

Before you sign that contract or spend a single time, look very closely at the details to see if it is the proper fit for you. It is within the details where you can determine if you can stick to your fitness program on a long term. It definitely needs to work within your schedule and it must incorporate enough variety to keep things interesting. If those two ingredients are missing, then it is unlikely that you will continue on the journey to getting in shape.
